Innovative Scheduling regards the National
Science Foundation as its most important research sponsor. NSF administers
the Small Business
Innovations Research Program, giving grants to small companies to
develop and commercialize ground-breaking ideas. These prestigious grants are very competitive and only awarded to projects with significant
research innovation and commercial potential. Phase I of this grant gives
seed funding to conduct a proof-of-concept study. A limited number of
Phase I studies receive a larger Phase II grant to develop their findings
from Phase I work into a prototype product.
A Phase IIB provides a 50% match to industry funding obtained during the Phase II grant period. Innovative Scheduling is the
recipient of the following SBIR grants:
- A Decision Support System for the Railroad Blocking Problem,
Phase I and Phase II Grants.
- A Decision Support System for the Train Schedule Design Problem,
Phase I and Phase II Grants.
- Dynamic Locomotive Assignment: Algorithms for Real-Time Decision Support, Phase I Grant
These grants have enabled us to develop prototype software that we can
demonstrate to potential clients and seek additional funding to develop
commercial grade products. SBIR grants constitute an important part of
our revenue and have enabled us to develop market presence within the
railroad sector. We are committed to take each of these projects to its full cycle of commercialization.
We thank NSF for its support and are committed to making
our company a success story for the NSF’s SBIR Program.
